Five phases that turn AI talk into decisions
MAKIA is the workshop method behind AI on Monday Morning. It moves a team from the vague sense that they should be doing something with AI to a short list of decisions with owners — in one session. Each phase has its own cards, its own timing, and one output you leave with.
MAKIA is a loop, not a line
Each phase feeds the next, and the fifth feeds the first again. Adoption is what you revisit every quarter, not a project you close.
The five phases
- M
Mind Mapping
20 min9 cardsSee the whole picture before diving into any single part.
Use MEANING cards. Map AI reality today — challenges, tools, gaps. No judgment yet, and no solutions.
- A
Activate Creativity
30 min18 cardsBreak your usual thinking patterns. Combine cards to generate unexpected possibilities.
Mix KNOWLEDGE + ACTORS cards. Generate “How might we…” questions, then shortlist the most promising.
- K
Kickstart Prototyping
45 min8 cardsStop theorizing. Make something tangible — even a rough sketch counts.
Pick 2 ACTION cards from MEANING or IMPACT. Prototype one AI-powered process you can react to.
- I
Iterate with Intention
30 min18 cardsEvery version teaches you something. The goal isn’t perfect — it’s better.
Use IMPACT + ALIGNMENT cards to evaluate your prototype against real criteria and improve with evidence.
- A
Adopt Systems
30 min9 cardsAdoption doesn’t end at training. It begins there.
Use ALIGNMENT cards to design the governance, integration and habits that make AI stick.
The seven dimensions
Every card belongs to one dimension. The dimensions are the lenses a team keeps switching between — why it matters, who it touches, what you know, what changes, and how it holds.

Common questions
What is the MAKIA method?
MAKIA is a five-phase workshop method for AI adoption: Map Mindsets, Activate Creativity, Kickstart Prototyping, Iterate with Insights, Achieve Adoption. Each phase is played with a set of cards and ends with a written decision and a named owner.
How long does an AI on Monday Morning session take?
Three formats: a 60-minute Quick Sprint covering the first two phases, a 2.5-hour Standard Workshop covering all five, and a half-day Deep Dive with full dimension work.
How many people do I need to run it?
Three to twelve participants works best, with one person facilitating. It is designed for real teams using their own work as the material, not for abstract training.
Is the game free?
Yes. The game runs in the browser at aionmondaymorning.com with no signup, no install and no account. Session state stays in your browser.
How many cards are in the deck?
55 cards across five dimensions — Meaning, Actors, Knowledge, Impact and Alignment — plus persona and process cards used to run each phase.
Do I need AI expertise to facilitate it?
No. The method is about adoption decisions, not tool selection or technical skill. The cards carry the prompts, the timings and the facilitation instructions.
Who created the method?
Makia Labs, a studio based in Montpellier, France. The method is also the basis of the book AI on Monday Morning: The Makia Playbook for Small Business Owners.
